Millions of drivers are expected to upgrade to Real ID licenses. It’s best to apply as early as possible if you want a boarding pass for flights that begin in October 2020. In states such as Oklahoma and Michigan, you need to renew your driver’s license every four years. Elsewhere, licenses are valid for between five and eight years. States are implementing Real ID, which is a driver’s licence that can be used as federal identification.
